Dimethyl Sulfoxide has the unique feature that it can dissolve and bind both water- and fat-soluble substances very well. DMSO can penetrate biological membranes and acts as a “channel opener”, so to speak.
Dimethyl Sulfoxide is metabolized in the body to dimethyl sulfone, which corresponds to the well-known dietary supplement MSM (methylsulfonylmethane). DMSO is therefore a rich source of organic sulfur.
As an organic solvent, dimethyl sulfoxide is highly miscible with water and oily substances.
The mixture may heat up slightly when mixed with other substances.
When stored below 18oC, undiluted DMSO crystallizes. Liquefaction by gentle warming (e.g. in a lukewarm water bath / in the air at room temperature) without loss of quality.
Please note that DMSO promotes the penetration of substances and chemicals through the skin. Therefore, use it with the necessary care.
